SUMMARY:Mighty Mississippi Exhibit Unveiling
DESCRIPTION:The Missouri History Museum’s Mighty Mississippi Exhibit will get a second life at the National Great River Museum!\n\nThe Mighty Mississippi was an incredible\, multifaceted exhibit at the Missouri History Museum that showcased the importance the river has played in the history and culture of the region through deep dives into the river’s ecosystem\, Native America communities\, the fur trade\, and the steamboat industry. Unfortunately\, the exhibit’s duration of November 2019-June 2021 coincided with the pandemic and museum closures\, so not as many people were able to experience this exhibit as otherwise would have.\n\nBut now\, would-be museum goers have a second chance to see pieces of this exhibit for years to come at the National Great Rivers Museum! Through a collaboration between the two Museums\, elements of the original Might Mississippi exhibit will used to create temporary exhibits at the NGRM that cycle through didn’t focused topics\, such as river navigation\, floods and droughts\, the legend of the Piasa\, and more.\n\nThe first of this exhibit series will focus on the ecological diversity of the Mississippi River and will be unveiled on August 14th!\n\nThis exhibit will be on display alongside other exhibit pieces that illustrate important endangered species work being conducted by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rangers and Missouri Department of Conservation Biologists. The day this exhibit unveils will coincide with another family-friendly event at the museum meant to bring awareness to this work. You can read more about that event here:\nhttps://fb.me/e/1lJxVMmOU\n\nBetween presentations in our theater\, double the number of public tours\, kid-friendly crafts\, and a chance to get up close and personal with some large river fish\, this special unveiling day for the Missouri History Museum’s Mighty Mississippi exhibit will give you plenty to do with your day! So come visit us\, see our new exhibit\, and stay for as many of the activities as you’d like!\n\nAnd this event is totally free! We’ll see you on August 14th!

SUMMARY:Flood Prep Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Flood Prep Workshop \nOfficials with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)\, Illinois Department of Insurance (IDOI) and Illinois Department of Natural Resources are launching a FloodPrep tour to help prepare communities – both residents and local governments — for the possibility of spring flooding. These events will focus on personal preparedness and the importance of flood insurance. \nWhile the calendar may still say winter\, the time to prepare for spring flooding is now. Most flood insurance policies take 30-days to go into effect. The National Weather Service suggests that abnormally moist ground conditions and unseasonably higher river levels in the upper Midwest could lead to a considerable risk for repeat flooding this spring. With this in mind\, state officials are encouraging Illinois residents to consider flood insurance before the next flood occurs.
